BOOK CLUB Our next Book Club will be held October 15, at 6:30-8:00pm. We’ll be reading another excellent Graham Greene novel, “The End of the Affair.” On the surface it’s a romantic novel, but also a spiritual one, essentially about the nature of love, an encounter between love of self , love of another, and love of God. It presents the possibility that human suffering on a very personal level can lead to fait, as well as doubt.

PAX CHRISTI METRO NEW YORK It is common to focus on marriage when reflecting on Sunday’s readings, but that is not the whole story. After all, where does that leave the many who never marry or who have been widowed? And even for married people, does that mean we overlook such powerful scripture passages as this from the second reading: “For the one who sanctifies and those who are sanctified have all one origin. That is why Christ is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters”? Or this from the Gospel: “Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the realm of God like a child shall not enter it”?
Let’s be open as a child to God’s word. We all share a common origin. We need one another and we thrive in communion with one another, not just as husband and wife or brother and sister, but as friends, co-workers, and neighbors, regardless of race, ethnicity, age, class, gender, health, religion, or any other category that may be misused to divide. We are all one
SUNDAY SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Sunday School teachers and Assistants are needed to serve in this important Parish Ministry. Volunteers who work with children follow a screening process as required by the Archdiocese. Please call Tina Silvestro (212 877-3111) for more information.
