RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS
RCIA is the process designed by the Church for adults to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion. The goals are to give a complete overview of Catholic teaching and practice and to begin to deepen a Christian spiritual life centered in the Sunday Scripture readings. The sacraments are received at the Easter Vigil Mass. It is open to adults who:
- Have never been baptized; they would be preparing for all three sacraments.
- Were baptized in a non-Catholic Christian denomination who are interested in becoming Catholic; they would be preparing for Confirmation and First Communion.
- Were baptized Catholic but never received Confirmation and/or First Communion; they would be preparing for the sacraments they have not yet received.
Inquiry discussions for adults will begin on Monday, September 25 at 6:30 pm. If you (or anyone you know) are interested in learning more about our program or registering, please call Tina Silvestro at 212-877-3111.

Join us in celebrating the Season of Creation. As Pope Francis said in last year’s World Day of Prayer for Creation message, “we should be united in showing mercy to the earth as our common home and cherishing the world in which we live as a place for sharing and communion.”
The Season of Creation runs from Sept. 1, the World Day of Prayer for Creation and continues through Oct. 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. Thousands of Christians will be coming together around the world united with one purpose: to pray and care for creation.
The World Day of Prayer for Creation was proclaimed by Patriarch Dimitrios I for the Orthodox Church in 1989, then by other major Christian churches, and was embraced by Pope Francis for the Roman Catholic Church in 2015.
This year, participants in the Season of Creation are asked to consider participating in various components: prayer; a personal pledge for action; a group symbolic action and/or event, and advocacy. We invite you to look at the website Season of Creation,
www.seasonofcreation.org and listen to the video of Pope Francis inviting us to participate and commit to taking concrete actions to care for our common home. You’ll also find an online Taizé prayer service with Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox and Anglican leaders.
Look for our weekly column in the bulletin through the month of September with highlights, and join Catholics around the world in a prayerful Season of Creation.
