MNYCCM Lenten Reflection
During Lent, as we strive to live as Christ taught us, loving our neighbors as ourselves, consider thinking more broadly about who is your neighbor and how your energy choices are affecting them. The United States, a single country, produced 27 percent of the total carbon dioxide emissions of the world. Now all those emissions are bringing climate changes that are affecting all countries, particularly those who did the least to cause them.
Consider ways you could lessen your carbon impact. For instance, line dry your clothes.A dryer takes up five times more energy than a washing machine, equivalent to 225 light bulbs for an hour. Also unplug your electronic devices. When they are plugged in, they are still using energy even if they are powered down. Switch your electricity sourcefrom fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas) to a renewable source through an Energy Service Company (ESCO); your local utility still delivers it and bills you. Individual renters or owners, coops, condominiums, institutions or businesses can do this.
The Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? Luke 12:42
